Algebra@Sea 2005 Program

In April 2005, OceanWatch - Central Pacific led the Algebra@Sea 2005 program during a brief oceanographic research cruise south of the main Hawaiian Islands onboard the NOAA R/V Oscar E. Sette. During this time, daily email communications between the Oscar E. Sette and a Hawaii middle school (located in Oahu, Hawaii) allowed for the interaction between scientific staff and middle school students (e.g., Algebra I, Algebra II, pre-Calculus classes).

The exchange of oceanographic data (e.g., conductivity-temperature-depth [CTD], trawl observations, GPS measurements, etc) enabled for the application of "real-life" cruise-based oceanography & mathematical exercises directly in the classroom environment.

This program is free and open to all interested schools. If you would like to have your school or science/math class participate in this program, we encourage all teachers and school principals to contact us for upcoming opportunities.
